Listening Skill for teaching

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN9mgVvEDmE

Teaching Listening
Listening is the language modality that is used most frequently. It has been estimated that adults spend almost half their communication time listening, and students may receive as much as 90% of their in-school information through listening to instructors and to one another. Often, however, language learners do not recognize the level of effort that goes into developing listening ability.
Far from passively receiving and recording aural input, listeners actively involve themselves in the interpretation of what they hear, bringing their own background knowledge and linguistic knowledge to bear on the information contained in the aural text. Not all listening is the same; casual greetings, for example, require a different sort of listening capability than do academic lectures. Language learning requires intentional listening that employs strategies for identifying sounds and making meaning from them.
Listening involves a sender (a person, radio, television), a message, and a receiver (the listener). Listeners often must process messages as they come, even if they are still processing what they have just heard, without backtracking or looking ahead. In addition, listeners must cope with the sender's choice of vocabulary, structure, and rate of delivery. The complexity of the listening process is magnified in second language contexts, where the receiver also has incomplete control of the language.
Given the importance of listening in language learning and teaching, it is essential for language teachers to help their students become effective listeners. In the communicative approach to language teaching, this means modeling listening strategies and providing listening practice in authentic situations: those that learners are likely to encounter when they use the language outside the classroom.

                                   Someone like you lyrics

I heard
That you're settled down
That you found a girl
And you're married now
I heard
That your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things
I didn't give to you

Old friend
Why are you so shy
It ain't like you to hold back
Or hide from the light

I hate to turn up out of the blue
Uninvited
But I couldn't stay away
I couldn't fight it
I'd hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded
That for me
It isn't over

Never mind I'll find
Someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Too.. Don't forget me
I beg
I remember you say
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
Yeah

You'd know
How the time flies
Only yesterday
Was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the suprise
Of our glory days

I hate to turn up out of the blue
Uninvited
But I couldn't stay away
I couldn't fight it
I'd hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded
That for me
It isn't over
Yeah

Never mind I'll find
Someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Too.. Don't forget me
I beg
I remember you say
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead, yeah

Nothing compares
No worries, okays
Regrets and mistakes
They're memories made
Who would have known.. How..
Bittersweet
This would taste

Never mind I'll find
Someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Too.. Don't forget me
I beg
I remember you say
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead

Never mind I'll find
Someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Too.. Don't forget me
I beg
I remember you say
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love
But sometimes it hurts instead
Yeah, Yeah..

Powerful plea for peace from Pattani musician

Talent's Got Talent has its good points. A Pattani musician's powerful plea for an end to the Southern violence is deservedly winning high praise

·        Thailand's Got Talent has received a lot of criticism lately for it apparent mistreatment of a man who seemed to have mental or social behaviour problems
The same show is receiving high praise, however, for a powerful performance by a Pattani musician whose dramatic plea for an end to the violence in the deep South brought tears to the eyes of the judges, the audience and undoubtably many watching at home.

-Hello, my name is Mr. Somchai Ninsri, and my nickname is Chai. I’m 29 years old and come from Pattani.
At the moment…uh…I don’t have a secure job.
-…It’s...uh…like…I write songs…have recorded some, released some on YouTube – through a channel like that.

I sold some of them, been cheated some, didn’t get the agreed money. Finally, I don’t care much about this sort of thing anymore.
-I’ve travelled from the three southern border provinces, bringing the feelings of the people there through my song, through my lyrics, through my melody. That’s enough for me. I don’t have any expectations (don’t hope for anything).
-Okay, let’s get going, let’s get going! (Bring it on.)
-All set? (Fully ready?)
-All set! (Ready!)

-Ready to go? Okay, do your best! We’ll be with you
-Go!
-hello, could you introduce yourself a bit (talk a little about yourself)?
-My name is Mr Somchai Ninsri and my nickname is Chai.

-Khun Chai, how old are you?

-29.
-And you come from…?
-I come from Pattani.
-From Pattani…oh ho… and what are you going to do today?

-Today I’ve come to sing a song I composed for the three southernmost provinces (southern border provinces).

-Why did you want to come here?
(…. A long pause. ….) I don’t want to my ears to have to hear the sound gunshots, and my eyes to have to see (dead) bodies lying wrapped in mats…be they in the back of a pick-up or tied to the back of a motorbike or put in a pickup (กะบะ, รถกระบะ). Those images are still in my eyes from when I learned how to shoot (practiced shooting) last year … Even my nephew, or my friends, or my friend’s father… who are gone never to return… I, as a child of the three southernmost provinces, know the feelings of those… the families of those who lost their lives. Even though we cannot bring (their loved ones) back, I would like to tell my friends, who are thinking in the wrong direction, please come back to your original self.   We – southerners – still can do it one way or another! Please, friends, be determined,!  Let me, as a child of the three southern most provinces, do this duty to the best of my ability. Thank you.
White doves! Do come back!
-Protect and look after the people, can’t you?
Lyrics:
White doves! Here it has burst into flames!
Do come back and safeguard us against danger!
People don’t understand each other! Each has their own way of understanding (thinking).

(They) aren’t united as they used to be.
Don’t want to see people’s killing each other,
Holding guns and knives and chasing, slashing each other ever again.
Just how many must still die?
We all are Thais.

Want to see what used to be – holding hands and walking with our arms around our shoulders – like it was in the past.

Don’t want to see people’s killing each other,

Holding guns and knives and chasing, slashing each other ever again.
Want to see what used to be – holding hands and walking with our arms around our shoulders – like it was in the past.

-I believe we, the more than 60 million of us, probably want to say what you said today. The people who heard your song, especially those in the three southernmost provinces, probably feel the same as Benz (I), because I am also a southerner. And Benz likely feels no less than others
-because Benz, too, has lost a family member.
-I have two things to say. First, I looked into your eyes and I didn’t see competitor who wants 10 million baht (the winning prize). And for your performance right in front of me, I would say you have great (full) power – filling up the stage and reaching out to your home, eh, from your sincerity that you expect nothing at all (from this competition). What you want is that thing in your heart. Thank you very much.

-I agree with both of you. Thailand’s Got Talent Show is delighted to have you sing of a problem of Thailand at this moment on the stage of Thailand’s Got Talent.

-We’ve come to our decision time! Khun Chai, you passed 100%.
-Passed!
